"Saaaaaandra darling!" Mrs Hutchinson in the Liver Birds was one of her classic roles, although I guess most people would think of Mrs Slocham in Are you being Served?
I always enjoyed watching her performances. A true gem of an actress.

She "served" us with laughs for decades.
God bless. |

I have never seen or heard of her but I went to the link and I like her frankness about her pussy. Truly a woman among women. |

she was wonderful, especially as Mrs Slocombe in "Are You Being Served" - all that innuendo about her pussy, which nobody minded !!! |

Being a child at the time, the innuendo went right over my head. It worked on different levels. Those who got the innuendos found them funny, but those who didn't also found it funny on a more basic level, which shows how well written it was. It took me ages to find out why people laughed so much whenever she mentioned her cat.
Certain modern day comedies which rely entirely on innuendo for laughs do not have the other level and so lack the depth. |

I also remember her as Jimmy Clitheroe's mum in the Clitheroe Kid. Some Brit friends' cringe when I admit that I still enjoy listening to those shows.
2 pm on a Sunday afternoon (I think) - would never miss them when growing up. |
