in fact, it gets worse...
The Buckingham MP will break with tradition when he takes the chair in the House of Commons for the first time today by wearing a business suit and tie with “simple” robes, rather than the old-fashioned court dress donned by predecessors including Michael Martin.
He also confirmed that, like Mr Martin and the previous Speaker, Betty Boothroyd, he will not wear a wig.

I wish that was the biggest thing I had to worry about!

When we turn a blind eye to the small lapses, they often lead to much bigger problems. Cascade effect.
My grandfather (a Tory) once said that the only wig (whig) worthy of a place in Parliament is the one on the speaker's head. |

But there sure are plenty of larger lapses to focus on at the moment.
I don't think whether or not the Speaker wears a wig is going to make much of a difference to them.

But how can that be?
After 12 years of Labour government, surely everything should be sunny and fine in the workers paradise? |

So we ignore the small lapses?
Of course there are greater problems with the operation of Parliament than Mr. Speaker's ridiculous dress today - but I see them as related in some senses. I also note that you didn't present your suggestions for the improvement of our political system when I posted a thread for that purpose a little while ago - not a mention of wigs in it. |

We get it in proportion, IMHO. Honesty trumps tradition in my book.
You may have noticed that I've only recently started posting again, tjw. That's because I've been ridiculously busy in the real world. Believe me, though, I've had plenty to say about our political system and its shortcomings elsewhere.
