Updated home page http://freebritannia.com/
Now has a button which links to the forum
It's a temporary page at the moment. Paul (who is a very talented web designer) has kindly offered to look at some ideas for a more professional looking homepage.
But feel free to post the link to freebritannia.com wherever you think appropriate or to invite anyone interested in joining
I'm going to submit it to Google shortly but I think it takes a while to get listed.

this may sound a bit 'pc' but i have a horrible feeling that a lot of far-right freaks are going to wet themselves seeing that.
i know its our flag and that what it really means is the rule of law and the protection of the weak by the strong, but the particular picture used conjures up visions of doc martin wearing skinheads beating up old pakistani shopkeepers...
just my opinion.

I did consider that when I made the page, but frankly, I think we should reclaim the Union Jack from the nutter element.
It comes to something when reasonable minded people feel unable to use a national symbol for fear of association with tiny extremist groups.
I mean, next thing you know they'll be stopping people from flyin the flag on their property...er...
But we won't be allowing any BNP types to vent their spleen on here.

I've got to throw my weight in behind FB on this one. It's our flag, if any knuckle-dragging loons try and crash our party we'll have to start talking in polysyllabic words until they go away.

Polysyllabic?

On reflection, I felt there may be something in what Roger said about about attracting the wrong element, so I've updated the home page.

I believe that using the Union Flag on the title page is perfectly reasonable as this is a British discussion forum. If you did get any BNP or National Front rabble-rousers then the moment they step out of line they could be banned.
In fact, the act of banning such people, (with an explanation of the reason why), would secure the reputation of this forum as non-racist. It seems to me that being afraid of showing the Union Flag because it might be perceived as controversial, or an invitation to extremists, is surrendering to the PC brigade.

you are certainly right in principle David, it is unacceptable that a few thousand retards should prevent the legitimate use of a symbol that represents 60 million. however, we all know what turns these freaks on, and we all know how quickly a small group of posters - or even one - can swamp a site with articles that go against the philosophical trend of the site and, in effect, deter the 'regular' posters from fighting back because a) its a waste of breath, and b) they don't want to associate with a site where that kind of message is on display.
now FB and myself are adamant that we will come down like a ton of bricks on anything that even whiffs of that kind of garbage, we are quite happy to delete articles, remove posting rights and ban posters and their IP adresses - among other measures - but we're not here all the time and without 24hr moderation we leave ourselves open to 'raids', so therefore we need to limit our attraction to such people - if indeed they are people.
not perfect, and we have in effect ceded some ground to them with this decision, and not a decision taken lightly, but without 24hr protection probably the best we can do with our current resources.

It's not the flag that changed my mind. The particular picture was an image of a Union Jack being held aloft by a clenched hand (not that there's any other way of holding a flag), which when I took another look at it, I felt could have appealed to BNP types which wasn't the intention.

I quite agree, but the problem is that they will attack even if you don't have any nationalistic images on the title page.
They may even be more likely to attack if the target forum is mainstream and not apparently patriotic because it will be frequented by more people from the political centre and the left. For example, the NO2ID web forum was recently targeted by fascists and they are a single-issue forum! They had to increase moderation to stop the fascist posters.
