Thousands of Islamist militants in the UK are actively supporting jihadist activities at home and abroad, says a leaked Government document. The secret report says Britain will remain "a high-priority target" for international terrorists aligned with al Qaeda for the foreseeable future. And it warns that a network of extremist cells exists in the UK, with the main concentrations in London, Birmingham and Luton. Sometimes little snippets of news confirm your suspicions... Of course there are "thousands" in the UK who are misguided enough to support religious extremism, just as there are "thousands" who still think Adolf was The Man (some of the latter in local government). And if their fanaticism spills over into criminal activity, it's right that they're punished with the full rigour of the law. As for the remaining millions, I guess we're much as we always were ... The report is not speaking about"religious extremism" Sparty. I am sure there are many hundreds of thousands of law abiding religious extremists in our country, if not millions. Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Evangelicals. Roman Catholics, Muslims ... and even a few Anglicans! :wink: This report is not even speaking about secret admirers of Bin Laden and the other Jihadists. I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of those. As regulars here will know, I am very concerned about those who seek to impose Islam on the world through terrorism or the exploitation of our foolish Political Correctness. It amazes me that so many people are blind to the threat Islam poses to our democratic and tolerant way of life. Islam is a religion. These people take it to extremes. In my book that makes them "Religious Extremists". Many other peoples' books, too. If you see it differently, fine. We'll agree to differ. I am always alarmed by threats of criminal violence. That's why I tend to be pro-police, on the whole. I'm happy for them to have the resources to deal with violent criminals. I will differ. As most law abiding Muslims would differ. Those who seek to live here peacefully as our fellow citizens - the majority - would repudiate your anodyne description of the terrorists and their supporters as "religious extremists" - and probably feel insulted by it. Religious extremists are not at all dangerous. These people are.
