Sailor Defends Girlfriend: Shoots Intruder
(PENSACOLA, Fla.) Aug. 9 — Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies say two armed men broke into a home near Old Corry Field Road in Pensacola, but they weren’t the only ones with weapons. The intruders were greeted by a Navy sailor who says he wanted to protect his girlfriend so he went into combat mode. The young Pensacola couple asked us to conceal their identities because they are terrified some of the people responsible for disrupting their lives could come back. “We made eye contact,” the young man said. “He raised his arm, and I didn’t even waste time, I did what I had to do.” SR: The couple says they were taking a nap in their bedroom around 5 p.m. Saturday, when they heard what they describe as two loud booms and the sound of glass shattering all over the floor. “I got my shotgun and I made my way out of the bedroom,” he said. As soon as this man rounded the corner he says he saw two intruders inside his home and one of them was walking around with a gun in his hand. He says that’s when his military training kicked in. “As I raised my weapon, he raised his and I shot,” he said. “He tried to run out the front door and I shot and hit him again.” This Sailor says the second shot was fatal, and it was the second shot, he says, that sent the other intruder running out the door.
