Police priorities
Traumatised by a sex attack in a park, a teenage girl was at least comforted by the likelihood the man would be identified by DNA. Priya Francome-Wood, 17, had kicked and struggled free after he lay on top of her. Police said they were in no doubt she had managed to escape a serious sex attack. They took away her skirt and T-shirt, telling her 'a surprising amount of DNA' can be transferred in such cases. But five days later Miss Francome-Wood's hopes were shattered by a phone call from police in Bournemouth, where she was attacked during a weekend visit to a friend. To her horror, they said they could not justify spending £500 on DNA testing. To put this is context, one Gatso speed camera costs around £40,000 to buy and install.

EEK, that's ridiculous, her attacker broke the law and is getting away with it because they will not do their jobs... What if he murders someone?

EEK, that's ridiculous, her attacker broke the law and is getting away with it because they will not do their jobs... What if he murders someone? My sentiments entirely. Sexually driven criminals are almost never one time offenders. This man may very well assault, rape and possibly kill other women & girls before he is caught.

This is true. It's scary to think that the police have completely disregarded this in order to save money. What will be next? "We can't arrest this murderer, it will cost to much to jail him,"

I'm afraid this is already a consideration, Clarkey. Not for murders, of course. But for lesser offences whose victims would be very pleased to see the offender "inside" - and the key lost, too! And these same rozzers want to take everyone's DNA - and hang the expense!

It's like saying "We're very strict over here, unless of course we running a little short on money or space then you can get off with a fine or community service. Even then, we're going to go a bit easy on you by not making wear the high visiblity jackets that mark you out as a criminal because we know your sensitive"
