PM's, Emails and spam is the PM system working?
i sent two PM's last night on a pretty important subject - to BD and BB - and both have logged on since, but i've had no reply.
problem is that the admin email has been sending me information about accounts recently set up - the last dozen or so new members here - all with odd names and very 'interesting' websites in their profiles.
has someone having a go at this website?

Sorry about that, didn't notice the message this morning.
What's happened is that I changed the new members setting to "must be approved" a few days ago because we're getting lots of accounts being set up by spammers (they've not posted on the forums, but set up accounts with the homepage set to various commercial sites, including porn sites).
As it turns out this doesn't stop the accounts being opened, just stops em posting.
I didn't realise it was sending mails to anyone other than me.
Apologies, I've changed it back now.
I'll just delete the spam accounts as they appear form now on.

BD,
Is it possible to set the membership options so you can't post a web page in your details? I would say the majority of us haven't, and those legit members who have, would not object too much. If someone then wants to show a webpage link they can always have it as part of their sig, or mention it in a "hello" type message.

Good idea Rana.
But I've had a good look through the various settings and menus and can't find an obvious way of doing that.
It's just a minor annoyance really though, no big deal.

DONT Knock Out Websites :shock: ; As Ive got 2 & 2 Forums as :shock: !;
I Dont know about this Server; But on Mine there is a "Visual Recognition"
Thing; That New Members when registering must copy to Open a Account;
"Bots" cant read this so are Banned from Opening a Account; Ive got this set up on my Sites; And have never had any Problems:
Word of Warning; NEVER Click on these Spam Links; Most carry
Viruses/Worms or Worst!.

We've got the visual validation thing too. Apparantly these spam accounts are set up manually to get round it.
Thread on it here...
