Obama urges Europeans, Americans To Defeat Terror....
By DAVID ESPO and DAVID RISING BERLIN (AP) - Cheered by an enormous international crowd, Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on Thursday summoned Europeans and Americans together to "defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it" as surely as they conquered communism a generation ago. Obama said he was speaking as a citizen, not as a president, but the evening was awash in politics as the first-term U.S. senator sought to burnish his international credentials for the fall campaign at home. His remarks before a crowd estimated at more than 200,000 inevitably invited comparison to historic speeches in the same city by Presidents Kennedy and Reagan. Now a presidential candidate himself, Obama borrowed rhetoric from his own appeals to campaign audiences this year in the likes of Berlin, N.H., as he spoke in one of the great cities of Europe. "People of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment. This is our time," he declared. "The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand," Obama said, speaking not far from where the Berlin Wall once divided the city. "The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christians and Muslims and Jews cannot stand," he said. For his speech, Obama drew loud applause as he strode confidently across a large podium erected at the base of the Victory Column in Tiergarten Park in the heart of Berlin. The crowd spilled away from the Column for blocks. Police spokesman Bernhard Schodrowski said there were more than 200,000 people, nearly three times the 75,000 Obama drew in Oregon this spring in his largest previous audience. He drew loud applause when he talked of a world without nuclear weapons and again when he called for steps to counter climate change. LINK SR: Does that mean the bazaar is open now ?

Every election, the democrats give me yet one more reason to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. Sometimes I wonder if the Swiss system isn't the better way to go.

Why go to France and Germany before Britain? Don't we get ANY credit for being America's staunchest and most reliable ally? Seems not.

Why go to France and Germany before Britain? Don't we get ANY credit for being America's staunchest and most reliable ally? Seems not. 'Twas ever thus. Presidents Regan and Bush Jnr. arrived in office building links with Latin America (implicitly at the expense of the "special relationship"), and President Clinton slobbered over Europe in the same way - yet in all three cases it became rapidly apparent that the U.K. was the closest and by far the most genuine ally. All three left office (or will leave office in the case of Pres. Bush) as fervent anglophiles (politically if not culturally). Also, Sen. Obama is coming to the U.K. where (I understand) he will meet the Prime Minister along with Mr. Cameron. The Senator is not the President - technically speaking he's on a Senate fact-finding mission; yes I know what the reality is, it's been well covered on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" inter alia. But this isn't the same thing as a presidential visit.

Think of it this way. At least Obama wasn't tying up your traffic and costing you taxpayers there with all the extra security.
