It seems unfair to single anyone out, but I'm going to award the gong to Brian Cowen, Taoiseach of Ireland. On Monday Cowen directly linked failure to pass the Lisbon Treaty referendum to the economic downturn: He said the Government did not explain to people that rejection of the treaty could make the economic situation even worse. Mr Cowen said the economy and Lisbon cannot be separated when the country looks at its place in Europe after the referendum. "It is increasingly obvious to me that our economic difficulties and the political dilemma posed by the Lisbon Treaty are linked,'' he said. "We failed to address people's genuinely held concerns and we failed to get the message through that a rejection of the treaty could exacerbate the already tough economic situation." So there you have it. Not a global economic problem at all. It's all your fault Paddy, for not voting to totally relinquish your sovereignty to the EU superstate.
