Hats banned from Yorkshire pubs over CCTV fears Pubs in Yorkshire have been ordered to ban people from wearing flat caps or other hats so troublemakers can be more easily recognised.
The Park Hotel in Wadsley, Sheffield, is the la-*test*-('") to be asked to impose the rule by senior police officers.
Mark Kelly, the landlord said: "Police asked us to ensure that everyone removes headgear.

The measure, designed to prevent people from obscuring their faces from CCTV cameras, has been questioned by Barnsley's former Test umpire Dickie Bird, 75, well-known for his favoured white flat cap.
He said: "Asking a Yorkshireman to take off his flat cap -- whoever heard of anything so silly."

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said bans on people wearing headgear in public premises had been operated in banks and post offices for years.

Eh? Wot?
In the cooler months - and some of the hotter months, too, I collect my pension hatted. And I also wear hats when making a rare visit to the bank.
And I shall continue to do so.

It certainly has been known for me to go out with suitable hear-gear (yes, I wear baseball caps all of the time - honest  ); however when I go indoors I always remove it, as does everybody, surely.

Yes indeed, but what constitutes "indoors"?
Do you remove your titfer while queuing at the Post Office Counter, or to pay money in at the bank?
If you do you would be a rarity round these parts!
But I do remove my hat in restaurants, public houses ...
Come to think about it, it is probably anywhere you might sit down under cover.

The bank thing is about crash helmets.
I believe there were some incidents where crash helmeted heads were used to try to nut their way through the protective glass between the punters and the dosh.

Yes.
But then I'm a rarity anywhere.
I tend to keep any hat on whilst in a shopping centre (if I have to enter one), but remove it when going into a particular shop...a little odd perhaps, but then I am.

Yes I dare the flipping Peelers to try and make some Bloke/Lass take off their hats after they've knocked back a few pints !!!
And would'nt you just love if they ran into a bunch of drunken Footie Fans after their Home Team blew a tight game
I remember reading somewhere that when the Nazi's occupied Poland in 1939, Poles were forbidden to wear hats except in certain capacities along with not being allowed to enter Train Stations despite the weather and be highly educated....
I guess thats next on the list as well in the UK !

Well, the plebs are still allowed in the railway stations, but they've certainly reduced the likelihood of em being highly educated.
Well, they wouldn't want the peasants to be able to read now would they.
