Belgians buy American icon - Yes! The Belgians!
The US brewer Anheuser-Busch has agreed to be taken over by Belgium-based InBev, in a move that will create the world's largest beer maker. The $52bn (£26bn) takeover bid by InBev, which makes Stella Artois beer, was accepted by Anheuser's board. The combined company will now be called Anheuser-Busch InBev. Anheuser makes Budweiser - the most popular beer in the US - and some US politicians had expressed anger at the prospect of a foreign takeover. snip http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7504643.stm Belgians! HA!

some US politicians had expressed anger at the prospect of a foreign takeover. Heaven forbid that somebody who knows about making beer should own Budweiser.

I'm not happy at losing US ownership of one of our biggest companies, but that is life with the weak dollar. Anheuser makes Budweiser - the most popular beer in the US There's a mistake...Budweiser is not beer. I don't know it is, but it is not beer. Tastes like Clydesdale piss.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweiser_Clydesdales Beer aside, Anheuser-Busch is probably the best marketing firm in the entire country. They have to be with their beer products. I don't particulary care for most of them and only drink it if it is free. Believe it or not, there are good American beers, mostly microbrews which probably aren't exported, except maybe to parts of Canada.

Heaven forbid that somebody who knows about making beer should own Budweiser. The sad part is that with the German ancestry of these mass produced beer makers - Busch, Miller (Muller), Strohs, Schlitz, and Coors - I'd think that they should be able to equal to the beer making ability of their German counterparts. If Jake Leinenkugel can make a good lager in Wisconsin, the rest should be able to do the same.

Believe it or not, there are good American beers Maybe. But they're not served warm are they!

Believe it or not, there are good American beers Maybe. But they're not served warm are they! Nope. I think that's because Lagers and pilsner are meant to be colder as opposed to Ales and Stouts. Most American mass produced beers are supposedly Lagers/Pilsners. They are cold, so we drink all brews cold. On a smililar note an English immigrant I know will refuse to order a Guinness or Bass in a pub here too because of the served temperature. Anytime he's around when I order a Guinness, he shakes his head at the result. He's been here over 30 years and proudly calls himself an American, but not when it comes to beer.

Oddly enough I don't like warm beer, particularly Guinness. I'm not alone either, wee now have "Guinness Extra Cold" on tap in many pubs here.

Believe it or not, there are good American beers Maybe. But they're not served warm are they! There are some excellent microbrews I've tried in the States - I've seen some pale ales (one I can get up here). I suppose it isn't really a micro, but I've always enjoyed Sam Adams

Gun Packing Yank- 07-17-2008

Sam Adams is probably our best somewhat Mass Produced beer. It's real easy to find here at any supermarket, not just the beer stores. I've had Upper Canada last time I was in Windsor. Brought back a 12 back across the border. Good stuff.

I don't care what beer it is as long as its 9% like I'm drinking now which is usually when I post stuff...

CORONA - With a Lime or Lemon That takes me back. Was all the rage over here for a while in my misspent yoof. My baby-sister (aged 22) still drinks it - not sure what that says about it being "all the rage" or "passe" though.

My baby-sister (aged 22) still drinks it - with a slice of lime? not seen that for years, but then, I don't get out much these days :(
